When you set bacground color to grid it doesn't seem that it taken to effect. I tried with all tree objects (table cell, container div and div which holds grid control), but it shows white color as background.

The default bg color can be changed in dhtmlxgrid.css div.gridbox .objbox {

            background-color:white;

            }
