Hi,
whats the structure of the json file and how to place the start position and total_count in the json file
if i use json file instead of the xml does it give any problem?

Such functionality as rowspans ans updateFromXML can be used with XML datasource only. 
Except of this - there is no any other side effects of JSON usage.
