link column type with mailto

The following string stored along with the java string inside a dhtmlx grid cell works fine "^javascript:frm.action=\"PropertyGenInfo.action\";frm.submit()^_self" ,but when I append "^javascript:mailto:xxx@yy.com" string,the link leads to a empty page rather than invoking configured mail server ( for eg outlook express)
smtp server already configured and works fine oustside the grid
Could u tell me how to resolve this ?
