special characters in grid

When trying to fill in the grid using XML, and in XML I have some special characters:
for example I have "<" lower than sign, and I can not see this character on grid...
What I need to do?
Example:

<row id="123">
<cell>Building</cell>
<cell>gr</cell>
<cell>0</cell>
<cell>></cell>
<cell>1</cell>
<cell><</cell>
<cell>10</cell>
<cell>lb</cell>
<cell>0</cell>
</row>
