We are evaluating dhtmlTree component. Could you let me know whether you have any server side components to generate xml format.

The PRO version includes dhtmlxDataProcessor component, which was designed to load data from server and store changes in tree back to server through AJAX calls. For now it has server side parts for PHP5, PHP4, ASP and Ruby-on-Rails.
